2011 Goals

January 26, 2011

I’ll admit, I don’t really believe in resolutions.  I sigh when I hear the word for days on end starting December 26th.  They’re mentioned on the radio, articles are written, blog posts are centered around them….and I just cringe.  Maybe it’s because I’ve never been able to keep one?! Maybe I’m just bitter because dieting has escaped me for my whole adult life and I hate the gym.  I’ve always got big ideas and lots of passions, but I’m terrible with planning.  As an old manager once told me, “Fail to plan, plan to fail.”  Apparently failure was something I could achieve then!

So this year, I’ve decided to set some goals.  Easy ones.  Tee-ball for Babe Ruth type goals.  Don’t laugh, I want to win!

1.  See the “Back to the Future” movies.  I was never into movies when I was younger, and now I always hear about all these “OMG YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THAT?!?!” movies.

2. Wear my engagement ring for 2 weeks straight.  I stopped wearing rings years ago because I got annoyed that they’d fall off in the winter when my fingers shrank, and hurt in the summer when they swell.  I’m terrible at remembering to wear it still.  2 weeks is a good goal, right? Luckily, my friends know that if I’m not wearing it, we didn’t break up. Some people seem to get nervous when they don’t see it.  In fact, my mother is reading this right now and shaking her head.

3. Lose 26 lbs.  Weight’s mandatory, right?  It took a few years to put those pounds on, I can lose 2 a month, right?  If you know of any awesome cookies and ice cream diets, please comment below!

4. See 2 concerts this year.  In my younger days, I used to average somewhere around 55 a year.  I don’t think I’ve been to 5 in the past 5 years and that makes me sad when I think of all the great memories!

5. Finish up a personal project I’ve been working on- a website for all my old band photos.  I took it down because it got so outdated but I’ve gotten emails that people went to look at the photos and they vanished. I met a lot of people through that old site so it’s only fair to rebuild it!

6. Send my grandmother a card or post card every month.  She loves mail.

7. Finally track down and purchase a copy of Josh Martinez’s “Buck Up Princess” cd. I love it but it’s out of print. I have a feeling that my ipod is going to die shortly and my few tracks with it.  Did I mention my birthday is March 15th yet??

8. Keep detailed and organized receipts for taxes so I won’t scramble to go through it all at the end of the year. That needs no explaining.

9. Purchase a new car.  My poor old beater is a topic for another post. I hope I’m closer to this one than I think!

10.  Raise $1500 for the Humane Society of Harford County.  Last year I raised about $700 so I’m aiming to double that this year, and that’s not including adoptions I was involved in or events I helped with. Just straight $$$.

11. Spend more time with family, other than just birthdays and holidays.  My nephews are growing up so fast and I want to be the “Aunt Erika who came to the zoo on my field trip” and not the “Aunt Erika who’s a hermit because of work.”  I also just freakin’ love zoos!

11 for 2011 is a fitting number, right?  Of course I have business goals, but those are boring.  You didn’t really want to read “blog 3 times a week,” did you?  You’d rather just read 3 blogs a week.  Shhh, I didn’t actually mean that one ;)
