Baltimore Pet Photographer: Fat Birdies
When my aunt caught wind of our new cats, she sent presents. A box from Amazon showed up one day, and it was filled with books about cats! I grew up with cats but it’s been so long since I’ve lived with any, and they were outdoor cats. Reading the books refreshed me on cat behavior and Bryan and I decided to get a bird feeder like the book suggested for entertaining indoor cats.
At first, there were only a few birds that came around, mostly sparrows. Now we have what we like to call “birdiepalooza” on daily basis! Several sparrows show up (looking fatter each day), a few doves, a woodpecker, and female bluejays. However, there’s 1 bird that always makes himself known with very distinct chirping, and all the other birds disappear.
Meet Mr. Cardinal
And when he comes around, his wife, Mrs. Cardinal is never very far behind!
Some days, I really think that I get way more enjoyment out of the feeder than the cats do. Of course, those birds will also put us into the poor house. They can clean out the feeder in under 2 days! A very large portion of that ends up on our balcony floor so then we let them clean it up before we refill the feeder. It’s an interesting cycle to say the least!
Speaking of broke, I’m also going to be needing some good zoom lenses since it’s obvious my portrait lenses didn’t quite make the grade for birdwatching.
