Baltimore Pet Photography: Bow Wow Boogie

May 11, 2010

One of the Humane Society’s biggest fundraisers each year is the Bow Wow Boogie- an all you can eat and drink buffet with dancing, gambling, and silent and live auctions.  It’s held at the Richlin Ballroom in Edgewood, MD which seems to be the only venue in Harford County that can hold enough people.  There were about 420 tickets sold and about 20 volunteers/staff working the event.  There were 97 baskets this year for auction vs about 60 last year.  Community support was unbelievable this year!

It was an awesome night and I’m so proud to say that we raised $27,000! Bryan and I worked hard at collecting and donating auction items so it was a very feel good moment to hear that number. $7k over the last Boogie!  Of course my photography package couldn’t compete with the beautiful custom oil painting that another artist donated (I can’t find a website for it! Boo!).  There was also an artist who does pet sculptures that are so realistic that my jaw dropped.  Next year I need to make my display more impressive! I didn’t realize that the 8×10 samples would be shrink wrapped into a basket and hard to see. Live and learn, right?

Here’s just a few photos since I worked most of the event:

A view from the ceiling

The ballroom during the live auction

The silent auction.  There I am in the corner!

And this is Reesey, a homeless guinea pig that will be able to stay at the shelter thanks to the support of the community for fundraisers like this!
