Baltimore Child Photographer: Welcome to the World, Abigail!

Baltimore Child Photographer: Welcome to the World, Abigail!

April 21, 2010

We swore Jen was going to have a boy.  I had a dream that it was a boy.  The baby shower cake somehow ended up blue.  When people gave her little outfits with butterflies on the butt, we joked about him wearing them inside out or as pajamas when no one was around.

Well, this morning, Jen had her baby.  And it’s a girl!!

Welcome, Abigail! 6 lbs 13 oz.

We got the labor call at 3 am was born by 10:30 am.  I spent most of the day taking care of the nephews.  Aunt Erika had never changed a diaper….until today.  I’ll spare the details, but it was like parallel parking an 18 wheeler your first time out!  I couldn’t wait to get home and shower. I adore photographing kids, but don’t have the stomach for their bodily functions!

Bryan and I got to the hospital a little late and squeaked in for about a 1/2  hour before visiting hours ended.  Just snapped a few pictures as we passed her around and discussed the reasons that an alternate spelling of Abigail just wouldn’t work.  My point was made when the night nursery nurse came in to ask her name.  Jen said “Abigail” and the nurse wrote it down.  I said “just out of curiosity, how did you spell that?”  A-B-I-G-A-I-L. She looked confused until we said there was a discussion about alternate spellings (Abagail) but Jen realized they’d have to spell her name out for people for the rest of their lives.  And this was coming from an Erika, a Hollie, and a Bryan.  I mean, even my freakin’ family spells my name wrong!

She’s scheduled to come home on Friday. We’re all excited to buy some little pink dresses. No more of the gender neutral yellow and green. =)
